The Whitney Recreation and Senior Center is part of an existing community park of approximately 5 acres. Simpson Coulter | STUDIO provided architectural and engineering services to the recreation addition that houses classrooms, fitness and computer rooms, an administrative and multi-purpose area, and a gymnasium. This new building was linked to the existing senior center by a central courtyard. The courtyard was designed with the help of regional artists while community members assisted and provided input throughout the design and construction process. The result is an architectural collage of material, anchored by the climbing-wall tower at the main entrance.
