Tuacahn Center for the Arts
Ivins, UT
The Tuacahn Classroom and Gift Gallery building is part of the existing magnet high school in Ivins, Utah that focuses on the performing arts. It is part of the larger Tuacahn Center for the Arts that is home to an outdoor amphitheater for dynamic and top-quality theater productions throughout the year. The layout and forms of the expansion were informed by the site’s aesthetics. The massive roof form blocks the harsh western sun during the early afternoon hours while maintaining views of the sandstone cliffs from the observation deck. Dance studios occupy the ground level of the expansion. Designed as flexible spaces for both students and performers, the classrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, capturing views of the mountains to the north. They have direct access to the backstage area of the amphitheater to become a green room whenever necessary. For the students, it was intended as a practice and learning space with access to the main campus.
