Ellis Elementary follows a prototypical elementary school design developed by the Simpson Coulter | STUDIO team, which retains its kit-of-parts characteristics but is reconfigured to fit into the specific conditions of its unique site. In alignment with the elementary school prototype objectives, Ellis Elementary focuses on celebrating learning while maintaining the flexibility needed to meet both current and future educational trends. The unique site, located within the master planned community of Inspirada in the southernmost part of Las Vegas, Ellis Elementary sits on a rectangular site and finds itself next to a community park on one of its edges and is bounded by streets on the remaining three edges. The ballfield sits on the northern edge of the site, which gives the students playing on the field a clear view of the Las Vegas Strip in the distance. The front of the school faces a residential development and was designed with vibrance of color to welcome students as they approach the school. Similarly, various openings in the gates that surround the site were strategically placed to encourage parents and students to walk to and from school each day.
