Elbert Edwards Elementary School is the first iteration of the elementary school prototypes that replace an existing campus. The 9-acre site, smaller than previous iterations of the elementary school prototype, required the design team to consolidate certain aspects of the program to address the site's unique constraints. The existing school had an outdoor garden area, NASA plaque, and tree grove that were kept but relocated in the new design. Following the prototype objectives, the Edwards ES design focused on daylighting throughout the learning environments as well as neighborhood connections in the site design.
