Encouraged by the ever-changing “hot” industries of today’s economy, Clark County School District hired Simpson Coulter | STUDIO to design academy buildings that would adapt to and vary with the educational challenges currently facing today’s employers. In correspondence with the interests of the community the campus would serve, West Career & Technical Academy (WCTA) was designed to house technology, engineering, and medical academies. In addition to providing technical skills to the students, the school district wished to offer an expanded set of options to students that were not conventionally offered in a typical high school curriculum. WCTA was the first prototypical master plan design for the Career & Technical Academies in the Las Vegas Valley that would later guide the design of Southwest, Southeast, and Veterans Tribute CTAs, all completed by the Simpson Coulter | STUDIO team.
