Foothills Library

Yuma, AZ

Done in collaboration with Patterson-Thompson Architects.

Nestled at the base of the Gila Mountains, the 15,000 square foot library services the eastern portion of Yuma known as Foothills. The library’s program and design accommodate for the 65+ demographic, which makes up almost half of the Foothills area population. However, a crucial focus of the design effort was also to include adequate spaces for teenagers to encourage greater diversity in the library’s user demographic. The material selections for the exterior transition into the interior spaces and act as a wayfinding system, highlighting the major programmatic elements within the facility. The stunning scenic backdrop provided by the mountains is captured and framed by floor-to-ceiling curtain walls, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior space.
